Lee removed from Capital

In the New York Times on July 3, poet Caroline Randall Williams discusses her essay that puts Black Southerners like her squarely at the heart of the debate.

This is a useful way of reframing the whole monuments and remembering the past debate. It is also yet another reminder of what it exactly was that Robert E. Lee fought for, condoned, and supported, as disgusting as it is. I’ve been thinking about this one a lot, especially looking around my diverse neighborhood, which has unintended monuments like this everywhere in the disparity of economic well being among it’s denizens, the expected outcomes and the like.

And it is stories like this one that further my resolve even further, that we must eradicate any memorial to these motherfuckers. (Ed. Note: These are my opinions and the post reflects authorship accordingly).
